Community Driver Mentor Programme (CDMP)

Up to a 12-week programme. (Free Service)

Learners to Restricted Licence

The Community Driver Mentor Programme is a life-changing initiative that empowers individuals without access to an eligible full licenced supervisor, or a warranted, registered vehicle to obtain their driver’s licence. Our community-based programme pairs learner drivers with caring and dedicated volunteer mentors, who provide free driving sessions and unwavering support to help them achieve their goals.

This programme is designed to give learners experience on the road that will help support them in being a safe driver and pass the test first time.

Criteria:

  • No Access to a supervisor (Full Licenced Driver – if you have access to a full licence driver but still need support, please go to Partnering with Whānau)
  • Minimum 30 hours driving experience in the last 12 months on New Zealand roads.
  • Attend an interview and a classroom induction, and an initial assessment to ensure that you are suitable for the programme.
  • Must be committed to participate in twice weekly scheduled drives for up-to 12 weeks.
  • A current Learners Licence held for a minimum of 3 months (legal requirement for sitting your restricted test).
  • New Zealand resident or citizen (For all former refugees, please go to Timatanga Hou programme)

The Salvation Army Driver Programmes Staff will ensure you are suitable to the programme.

“We used to walk or catch a ride and always be late or wet if it was raining. Now I can take my children to pre-school if it’s raining. I am so grateful.”
